I've heard some dogs suffer 'separation anxiety', how can I overcome this?

You must remember that ex-racing dogs have almost NEVER been PETS... They have been commercial commodities! When an ex-racing greyhounds comes into you home, for the first time in its life it will find someone to bond to, and bond they will! The phrase in our house is 'superglued'. There are several things you can do to ease this.

  • Do NOT make too much of a fuss of your dog for the first few days.
  • Establish a daily routine right from the start, set times for feeding, walks, etc.
  • Discourage you dog from following you everywhere, this may take a while and seem a little cruel at the time, but it works.
  • Don't shut your dog in another room while you're still in the house.
